Double Cell Module Rear Corridor Chase Design - (2) 80ft2 Cells
Rotondo Weirich understands the desire of corrections professionals to be able to maintain the cell units of a correctional facility from a secure mechanical corridor.
The rectangular cells in this illustration are used in this scenario with all plumbing fixtures mounted on the backwall of cells adjacent to this corridor location. This design on the whole tends to be more costly, because the square footage of the building grows along with the size of the MEP systems as they are pushed to the outside perimeter of the building. Further consideration is needed to allow daylighting of the cell units from the dayroom wall. Additionally, as cells typically provide the thermal exterior skin of the building with cast-in insulation systems, an additional building perimeter wall is required to close in the corridor.
