Double Cell Module - (2) 80ft2 Cells, Standard Chase
This module is designed to meet most common applications of precast cells within a medium or maximum security correctional facility.
The American Correctional Association publication, Standards for Dault Correctional Institutions, 4th Edition, along with the 2008 Standards Supplement, state that there shall be 25ft2 of unemcumbered space per occupant within cells/rooms used for housing inmates. As these cells are typically occupied by two individuals, 50ft2 of unencumbered space is required per cell for double occupancy consideration. At 80ft2 of floor space, and with a typical furniture plan as shown on these reference drawings, these cells achieve this standard space requirement.
For master planning purposes, most facility owners elect to provide this cell size in single occupancy situations, such that additional inmate beds may be added to satisfy future capacity needs.
